Speed Data'ing: Expanding Roles through Peer Training
Research activities are evolving on our campuses and the library needs of researchers are becoming increasingly complex. At UC Santa Cruz, we have added data management and preservation to our portfolio of library services - though tight budgets have kept the library from hiring new staff with these specialized skills. This poster will show how the UC Santa Cruz library implemented a team-based model comprised of members from the research support and emerging technologies departments to define and clarify new roles for data management within the library. The teams used peer training and use cases to increase awareness, expertise and capacity among our existing librarian workforce. We’ll show the results of our environmental scan of campus data activities and how we used that information to transform the role of the subject librarian.
