Leaders drive project creation. How do we navigate, manage, track progress, and collaborate on projects? In this session, we will share standards and best practices from the project management industry and frame the discussion using these principles. We will look under the hood at current project management practices at our libraries. Presenters will focus on simple, free or low-cost project management web applications, such as Trello, Basecamp and Asana. Attendees will learn some tips on selecting and implementing appropriate tools to fit your library's needs. Discussion will center on current project management practice at attendees’ libraries. Please bring ideas for projects at your library that could use some management help. You will get a chance to participate in hands-on activities to shift gears at your library and maximize productivity. We’ll top it all off with a technology showcase to demonstrate a variety of web applications, so bring your laptops and mobile devices to give them a test drive!

Presentation Synopsis:

In this session, we will schedule several opportunities for attendees to participate in discussion and activities. This will include polling audience members to ascertain the current project management practices in use at attendees’ libraries, and related discussion. We will provide a template and hands-on activities for attendees to begin a project management plan. We will encourage audience members to download a web app from a list of suggested free tools, and we will work with them to set up an initial project.

Attendees will leave with a draft plan for a project that they can start working on as soon as they get back to their workplace!
